Aidilfitri Charity Drive 2010 Update

We have just wrapped up our Aildilfitri Charity Drive! It went on for 4 days starting from 4th Sept to 8th Sept 2010!

Our BIG THANK YOU to all our friends, clients, our lovely volunteers and all the kind, generous people that have extended their time and support to help us raise some funds either in cash or kind for Rumah Titian Kasih in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa Kuala Lumpur.

We started the Charity Drive with the Aidilfitri Charity Sale last weekend held at Vincenzo Ristorante in One Bangsar. We had invited Salaam Wanita which is the voice of disadvantaged single mothers who weave eco-baskets from used magazines and some representatives from the orphanage/shelter, Rumah Titian Kasih to sell their baskets and goodies. Collectively, they made about RM750.00 in sales during the 3 hour event.

The donations kept pouring in through cash donations and purchases of our Raya gifts. All profits from the gift purchases from this Charity Drive week will benefit the orphanage. With your help we have raised RM2115.00 in cash! - Thank You! We have also gathered donations in kind (groceries, sundries and such) during this Charity Drive which is worth approximately RM592.00 in value.

Aidilfitri Charity Sale

We would like to invite you to our Aidilfitri Charity Sale to benefit the orphanage/shelter, Rumah Titian Kaseh and the disadvantaged women entrepreneurs/basket weavers, Salaam Wanita.

Every year we get together with some friends to contribute to Rumah Titian Kaseh in terms of groceries and such but this year we would like to get more people involved as they need more help. They will lose their home soon as the landlord has given them an eviction notice. They will need to look for a new place to live. So here we are doing what we can to help them out. The Single Mothers from Rumah Titian Kaseh will be at this event selling their traditional goodies to support the orphans and themselves, so do come and show your support.

Salaam Wanita is the voice for disadvantaged/low income women. They weave eco-baskets from used magazines and sell them to support their families. We have been helping them by integrating their baskets in our gift offerings but you can help too. They will be at this event, selling their baskets, so please come and show your support.

Our partners, Jonas Jodie, Crumb Cravings and ourselves will also be selling our own products and a % of our sales will go towards Rumah Titian Kaseh.

We also welcome donations to Rumah Titian Kaseh in terms of groceries and sundries. If you would like to donate, these are the items that they need at the moment. You can bring them along to this event. We will be happy to collect them and deliver them for you. Cash donations are also welcomed at the door. We will have a donation box for you to drop off your proceeds.

Visit & Donation Handover to An Orphanage - Rumah Titian Kasih

**THANK YOU** to our customers for showing your support in buying Raya gifts from us! Some of you may already know that with your Raya purchases - we have pledge RM2.00 for each Raya basket sold with the proceeds to be donated to an Orphanage. Rumah Titian Kasih located in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur was chosen as the beneficiary.

For Raya 2009, we sold 68 gift baskets, which brings the total donations pledged to RM136.00. With that we have managed to buy the following items for Rumah Titian:

- 2 x 2liters bottles of dishwashing liquid
- 2 big cans of VICO
- 2 x 2liters of cordials
- 2 bags of laundry detergent
- 2 big tins of cream crackers
- 4 big cans of Kaya spread
- 3 bags of flour
- 2 bags of sugar
- 2 x 1kg bags of rice
- 4 big tubes of toothpastes
- 12 bars of bath soaps
- 2 big boxes of jelly candy
alongwith other items from our friends!

And off we went to deliver to them...

When we arrived at the home, most of the children were at school and some of the younger ones were taken on a small excursion. This little boy was left behind because he was not feeling well..but nonetheless was happy and chirpy to have us around.

"Boy" as he was affectionately called by Mak Pah, attempted to do a "peace" sign to the camera!

He kept rummaging through the pile, couldn't wait to have the cream crackers and the jelly candy!

Rumah Titian Kasih is very near to the Istana Budaya as you can see the tip of the blue roof on the far top right of the photo.

As we bid goodbye... "Boy" came running out to wave and yell out goodbye and ran back in giggling!

The Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final Day @ The Crowne Plaza Hotel

The Malaysian Warriors hosted the Australian Rules Grand Final Day for the tenth year straight. The 2 teams in the finals - Geelong and St Kilda made it a awesome day with a very close, nail-biting, sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat game! Geelong won the championship in the end with a 12 points lead!

The event which was held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel attracted over 250 people of mostly Australians who resides in Malaysia.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of (Australian) The Cancer Council’s foremost fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia. Over AUD40 million has been raised since it first began in 1994. On a set date and time, hosts invite people along to a venue (this could be at work, school, home or in a club) and ask people to leave a donation.

1 in 4 Malaysians have a lifetime risk of developing cancer. By the year 2020 it will be 1 in 3 if no action is taken. This means every family will have at least one member suffering from cancer- be it your parent, spouse, sibling or child. The Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) and the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) are working together to establish an annual fundraising event which has been named “Jamuan Teh Malaysia”. The Patron for this event is H.E., Ms Penny Williams, Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia. This inaugural event is planned for 13th August 2009, with an official Press Launch/Reception by the Patron.

What is “Jamuan Teh Malaysia”(JAM)? It is where Malaysians and expatriates together can support BCWA and NCSM, by holding a tea party in their home, workplace, community groups, with colleagues, family or friends. This event is an opportunity for individuals and groups to join as a whole community and support this important cause.

The official launch of the event will be on 13 August, 10:00 a.m. Participants can choose to host Jamuan Teh Malaysia any day from 13 Aug to 16 Aug. AISM will be hosting the event on the 14^th August 2009.
